GATE WIKI Design Workshops 2009
Five workshops were held over three terms during the year.
Workshop One
This workshop introduced and explored what a wiki was, what goes into a wiki and the Web Challenge winners of the Primary School section in 2008 were looked at and evaluated for content and presentation.
Workshop Two
Students came with information, photos and ideas to make a wiki based around a theme of personal interest. The purpose was to make a wiki and learn how to use the various tools and to insert widgets to make the wiki exciting.
Workshop Three
Students further time on making their wiki with more widgets introduced during the day.
Workshop Four
Students started the session by reviewing their progress to date. Some students started updating the GATE Cluster 2009 Wiki. Students learnt about inserting audio and video footage.
Workshop Five
This session was based around completing our GATE Cluster Wiki, reviewing and evaluating the programme and completing a self assessment on the skills learnt. The assessment was based around wiki content, wiki presentation, wiki mechanics and internet safety.

Te Putake is a place-based education programme combining heritage, culture and outdoor education to create unique experiential learning opportunities. Students enjoyed a range of exciting hands on activities that drew on the history and the land scape of the Tairawhiti.
When: 23rd 24th,24th & 25th June
4th & 5th of August
26th and& 27th of
27th of August was an evening presentation to the Community.
The first three days explored the first encounters between tangata whenua and Europeans in Turanganui a Kiwa.
It was based at the yacht club using Kaiti beach and Kaiti hill.

14th May - The group met at Makaraka School and spent the day mixing and mingling to get to know each other! A range of activities were completed around what a leader looks like. It was an interactive day involving games and other fun activities.
26th May - The group met again at Makaraka School and were asked to lead a Citzenship / service project at their own school. Time was spent talking about different possible projects. Plans were started and a planning guidesheet was used.

24th July -The group met to discuss progress on their community projects and they started putting together a powerpoint to show the district council next term.
30th July - Gisborne District Council visit. The group met outside the Council chambers and went in to observe a council meeting. The leadership group shared their powerpoints to the council and then had a lunch with the council! After lunch the group walked around to a council walk way to observe rubbish / graffeti problems the council is currently experiencing and the group was asked for possible suggestions in dealing with this.
