The Museum workshop was called 'WHATS IN A NAME'. We had to find out how Gisborne streets got their names. Our group started the programme by going on bus tour around the streets of Gisborne looking at landmarks and features that might tell us how the street got its name!

We then selected a street name that we had to research and present this information at a presentation evening held at Ormond School.

Along with our own research we used the Tairawhiti Museum to help us understand why the streets were given those names and the interesting history around making the name decisions.

Here is a website that you can go on to find history, information and all the street names in Gisborne with significent history behind them.

When the workshops had finished the Museum G.A.T.E children had to present their research at Ormond School hall. Parents and caregivers came along to listen to our presentation. They had to create a presentation board and share some drama, debating and a powerpoint centred around the research question.

Here are some outfits that they wore on the presentation night.
